Running a mile in another man’s shoes

Today I ran a mile in another man’s shoes

The same 35kg of additional weight balanced on my back – but this figure is merely a distraction, a number that may catch attention

We are used to the idea of a rucksack, bucket or jar being filled gradually, until it eventually becomes too much to lift or topples over, spilling its contents

But do we think of those who are carrying a heavy load around with them, showing no signs of fatigue & making it look potentially effortless. It can only take one experience to change those who are coping to shouldering something unsustainable & try to preserve despite the warning signs

Now we may not be able to see the signs at first & that’s why I’m asking all men & those who support men, to check on a mate today. Give them 5 minutes, have a catch up, work past the every day hows life ‘fine’, yours? ‘Fine’

Today wasn’t easy. At times it felt comfortable, at other times hard. I walked. I breathed heavily. It showed as much as you can prepare, curveballs & the unexpected will come & it’s having the headspace to take this on, rather than being at capacity.

I ran this mile in aid of @movember, supporting men globally, for the betterment of their physical & mental health
